Every year during the entire month of April, Peace Corps Volunteers and their counterparts spread awareness about the environment through a variety of activities, read some examples below from 2012!
Ajde Makedonija Clean Up Projects
Peace Corps Volunteers in Struga, Dojran, and Lipkovo assisted "Ajde Makedonija in regional clean up actions.
" Struga is a highly polarized multiethnic community that agrees on little except that Struga needs to be cleaned. This project allowed them to work alongside one another and promote volunteerism in an effort to clean up their environment" - Stephen Robinson MAK 16
" Trash is currently thrown on the side of the roads and into the river. Cleaning these areas will provide a healthier environment and enhance the natural beauty" -Kelly Rupp MAK 16
"This project was significant to me because of the growing concern of waste in Macedonia. Much of the country side and cities are filled with waste sites that could be cleaned and sorted."-Chris DeWeir MAK 15

Water Pollution Lessons in Local Schools
Water Pollution Lessons in Local Schools In Stip and Strumica, primary school children learned about water pollution and conducted experiments to see the effects of liquid and solid pollutants in water.
" This activity incorporated experiential learning. Students learned by doing and were better able to digest the information that was given to them. I hope that students will draw a connection between their daily habits and water pollution as well as share what they learned with friends and family. " - Christine Meissner MAK 15
Creative Recycle Workshops
Children in Bitola learned how to recycle common throw-away items into fun, interactive craft projects!
"This program helped young people to understand the importance of recycling and trash pick, how to turn ‘trash’ into craft projects with little or no money, why volunteerism is vital to the community, and was also an entertaining and exciting way to teach about ecological issues." - Karli Reyes MAK 16
" Our activity provided instructions on how to creatively recycle throwaway items at no cost; students learned how to reuse materials that would likely end up in the trash and not be recycled" -Helene Wade MAK 15
